RECOMMENDER SYSTEM

March 19th surf:

By not logging into Amazon.com I simply typed 2.8 as a search key word. Amazon yielded 9 out of 48 items that was related to photography lens. Since the beginning of class a keyword of 2.8 would have probably not yielded photography related items as recommendation. Without logging into my account I realized Amazon was tracking my IP address as well using cookies though I frequently delete my cookies.

MY RECOMMENDER SYSTEM: AMAZON.COM

After my recent purchase of two items from Amazon.com and about several months of surfing and searching items on Amazon.com I realized my recommendation search has greatly improved. I searched many photography related items and realized lately from my computer and home and work without even logging into Amazon I'm getting photography related recommendation. I believe this has alot to do with my wish list and recent purchase. Better yet simply by typing 2.8 Amazon is smart enough to figure that I'm searching for fast lens. This goes back to the very fist lecture when we were asked for a definition of a word. How does a system know. Now Amazon has a better idea of me and my search query. I believe Amazon will continue to make good recommendations that are of interests to me.

RESOURCE: CAR RECOMMENDER FROM CARS.COM

http://www.cars.com/go/criteria/criteriaSearchForm.html

Car recommender search engine to help people find vehicles by providing information such as vehicle year, model, make and etc. Once vehicle recommendation is made customer gets an opportunity to rate the car using rating system of 1-5. User can also read ratings from other people.

I found some of the ratings by Consumer Review very high.

Another thing a consumer can do is to compare vehicles that might be similar in its class.
The goal is to get people to find what they like and then have the ability to find a local dealer to get quote.

I find this to be more of a content based system.

MY RECOMMENDER SYSTEM (AMAZON.COM)

FEB 21ST CLASS

Recently I've been looking at photography equipments of all sorts raning from cameras to camera accessories but no books. Up to now I've had an opportunity to rate over 135 items. I've probably rated about less than a dozen items which I've own. I've also include many photography items in my wish list in hopes of getting better recommendation.

About two weeks ago I did purchase two items from Amazon.com. After the purchase I realized I was getting better recommendations that was related to what was surfing for. I realized too that Amazon threw in a book among all things related to photography. The book however was not photography related. The book dealt with vegetrian. I felt Amazon was trying to get me interested in books as well as photography equipments.

I noticed too lately that even without signing in Amazon was throwing photography related items for me. It seems as if Amazon is making recommendation via my IP address. Overall I think Amazon is doing pretty good with their recommendations.

Out of 186 recommendations only one was something I didn't care about and that was a book on how to cook vegeterian.

AMAZON RECOMMENDER SYSTEM

This 5th week of class I made a purchase via my recommender system, AMAZON.COM.
Prior to making a purchase I had been selecting items to add to my wish list in hopes AMAZON will give me better recommendation as the semester progresses. My recent purchase was not a recommendation by Amazon. It was something I needed. I'm hoping after the purchase AMAZON will give me some good recommendation. I probably will not purchase another item for quite some time but will be interested in what AMAZON will recommend with future visits.
So far the recommendation has been about 40% correct on things I might be interested. The remaining is nothing close.

AMAZON RECOMMENDER

I continue to utilize Amazon's recommender system. After rating several items I decided to dump two items into my wishlists in hopes the recommender system will give me better recommendation. Both items were digital cameras, one of which I owned and the other I didn't. I realized the two items were not enough for Amazon to give me good recommendation. After the wish list entry I was given recommendation that was in the range but nothing I would want.
